Design Fodder: Charleston, SC

6/12/10

This amazing archway was spotted at Copper Penny (317 King Street) by Amanda (our dear guest blogger), who dubbed the dec wedding worthy. You might not be able to tell, but the arch is made of paper...it's basically mag and newspaper pages formed into an arch and then covered completely in clear packing tape and then topped off with paper flowers.

Also in the pic is another friend, Becca, who will probably kill me for posting this - but doesn't her shirt look amazing next to the paper creation?

Charleston's new beer garden Closed For Business (453 King Street, where wine bar Raval was - it's owned by the same people) had a surprisingly kitschy aesthetic. I've loved those giant lighted carnival numbers from the first time they started appearing as wedding decor, but I'm thinking more and more that one needs to feature in my future home.

Nothing too special here, but there's something undeniably fun about sleazy bar lighting, a good ol' pool table, and a Newcastle chalkboard - all a la Burn's Alley (354 1/2 King Street)...in fact, if I ever came across one of these boards I think it could feature nicely in a rec room.
