Domino Lives!

6/30/10

Brides.com has re-launched their site with one very welcome inclusion: archives of the late, great Domino magazine. There are already tons of design fodder to browse, but Brides will also be uploading more and more in the coming days. Talk about Christmas in July (OK...end of June, but close...)!

Girl Crushing

Cameron Diaz for British Vogue, July 2010.
Photographs by Regan Cameron.

I know Cameron Diaz is a love her/hate her kind of person - but if you happen to get your hands on a copy of British Vogue's July 2010 issue, you absolutely MUST look at Regan Cameron's photograph of the 37-year-old actress.

I swear she's more stunning than ever...and that's coming from a longtime fan who has seen her ups (think 'Charlie's Angels') and downs (even though she did sort of pull off that hairdo in 'There's Something About Mary') alike!

Design Fodder: Charleston, SC

6/12/10

This amazing archway was spotted at Copper Penny (317 King Street) by Amanda (our dear guest blogger), who dubbed the dec wedding worthy. You might not be able to tell, but the arch is made of paper...it's basically mag and newspaper pages formed into an arch and then covered completely in clear packing tape and then topped off with paper flowers.

Also in the pic is another friend, Becca, who will probably kill me for posting this - but doesn't her shirt look amazing next to the paper creation?

WW in Lonny!

From "Starting From Scratch", Lonny mag, June/July 2010.

Well, sort of!

My dear friend Ellie (ed assistant at Lonny mag and blogstress at Lady Gray) has an amazing apartment - so amazing, in fact, that it graced the pages of the latest issue of Lonny! And guess what? She included us as one of her fave blogs, too! What's more, WW is surrounded by great company: A Cup of Jo, Coco + Kelley, Destined to Design and This is Glamorous. Thanks Ellie, and thanks to the Lonny team - what an honor!

P.S. Pore over the feature of Ellie's apartment, starting on page 144 of the June/July issue.

Faux Real: Gilded Frame

6/8/10

Photograph from The Ensemble Project.

The Ensemble Project is one of those design junkie kind of blogs. If you categorize yourself as such, it's simply a must read...just be warned: allow yourself a couple of hours to click through, because once you start, you can't stop!

Lots of posts feature glimpses of the blogstress' living quarters, but last week's peek included a view of this gilded DIY picture frame. Although she doesn't include instructions, I imagine her supply list was something like this:

*Gathered sticks
*Gold spray paint
*Glue gun & glue sticks
*Broken bits of jewelry

Just arrange the sticks, glue them down, spray paint the whole thing, and weave bits of broken jewelry around the sticks! Weekend project, anyone?

Fashion Files: Summer's Best Accessory

Chiseled Drop Necklace in yellow, £34, Anthropologie.

I'm one of those people who buys one accessory a season and then wears it until death do us part. And when I spotted this bauble-y necklace at Anthropologie, I knew it would quickly become my summer staple. You might think that the lemony yellow and melon orange (along with key lime-inspired beads you can't really see in this photo) might be a limiting palette - but I've literally worn this piece with everything! From basic black and white ensembles to the bits of navy blue - mostly in the form of jeans - and cream tops (I found what works and stick to it, I think you'll find...), this is the perfect piece to take any outfit up a notch.

Homescapes: A House Divided

Yellow & Hot Pink Stars and Stripes cushion:
£36, Karen Hilton Designs.

Black Cross & Yellow Rose St George cushion:
£39, Karen Hilton Designs.

Although this bold stars and stripes pillow came from the need to support my countrymen in this weekend's USA v England World Cup soccer match, I know I must be fair (or smart given that I live with three Brits who could read this and indeed know where I sleep!) and include a little St. George action here as well. How fun is the yellow/pink/black combo?

Budget Pick: Laptop Bag

I've been looking for a laptop bag for a while, and of course fell in lust with the Mulberry Bayswater...but at £695, it's more than out of my budget. But this Ollie & Nic alternative - a surprisingly convincing non-leather option - brings all of that cognac hue to the table (and I love its tote shape, too) at just £60!
